Digital Camera Battery Tips

Battery Conservation Tips

Are you always running out of battery power just before you take that perfect picture with your digital camera? Here are some

tips to conserve your batteries when you are out “snapping away”.

1) Turn off your digital camera when not in use. If you are in a situation where you must snap pictures quickly, this may not

apply as turning digital cameras on and off take a few seconds, and may cause you to miss a picture-taking opportunity.

However, if you are taking a leisurely stroll and can afford a couple of seconds before snapping a still subject, by all

means, conserve your digital camera’s energy!

2) Many digital cameras have a regular viewfinder and an LCD viewfinder. While the digital LCD viewfinder has its benefits,

it can drain battery power. Turn it off when applicable and use your regular viewfinder for taking pictures.

3) Don’t stop after taking every photo and look at the picture in your digital camera’s playback mode. Granted, you sometimes

need to look at photos immediately after shooting them in order to make sure your exposure is correct, the lighting is ok,

etc., but doing this does use up your digital camera’s battery power.

4) If you are using MicroDrive media, be forewarned that these miniature hard drives may take up quite more power than

Compact Flash cards.

Taking care of you new battery pack

Normally, a new battery pack comes in a very low charge condition and must be fully charged before use. Refer to the user

manual of your portable electronic equipment for charging instructions. A new battery pack needs to be fully charged and

fully discharged or “cycled” as much as five times to condition them into performing at full capacity. Your equipment may

report a fully charge condition in as short as 10 to 15 minutes when the new battery pack is being charged for the first

time. This is a normal phenomenon especially for Nickel Cadmium (Ni-Cd) and Nickel Metal Hydride (Ni-MH) chemistries. When

this happens, remove the battery pack and let it cool

down for about fifteen minutes then repeat the charging procedure. “Conditioning” (fully discharging and then fully charging)

is necessary so as to maintain the optimum performance of a battery pack, and is recommended at least once a month

particularly for Ni-Cd and Ni-MH batteries. Failure to do so could result in reduced charge capacity and can significantly

shorten the battery packs useful life. Lithium Ion batteries do not require conditioning. It is normal for a battery pack to

get warm when charging and during use. However, if the battery pack gets excessive hot, here may be a problem with the

portable electronic equipments charging circuit and should therefore be checked by a qualified technician. Rechargeable

batteries undergo self-discharging when left unused for long periods of time. This is normal particularly in the case of Ni-

MH and Li-ion chemistries. For best results, always store a battery pack fully charged. It should be removed from the

equipment and kept in a cool, dry and clean place. The amount of runtime a battery pack produces depends on the power

requirements of components in your electronic equipment.

Don’t let under-charged batteries keep you from taking great photos.

If you infrequently use your digital camera, you may think that you after you use your digital camera, recharge your NiMH

batteries, wait a few weeks or months, then use your digital camera again, that your batteries will be charged and you’ll be

ready to snap photos, right?

Oops… Do that and you’ll be stuck with a non-functioning digital camera or one that just blinks a picture showing a dead

battery.

Rechargeable batteries don’t stay charged forever. They tend to lose a little bit of their power every day. If you charge

your batteries and frequently use your digital camera, you will probably never notice this loss of power. However, after a

couple of weeks, the power loss may be noticeable, and after a couple of months or longer of non-use, those once ready-to-go

batteries may have lost enough power to make them unusable.

Don’t get caught in this trap. Always charge your batteries before every trip, and make sure to use a battery charger with a sensor that prevents over-charge.

Some Tips On Finding The Right Kind Of Drug Treatment Program In South Carolina

Posted on October 25, 2009 |

South Carolina has a lot of treatment options for every kind of addiction and it might definitely become difficult for someone who does not know the addiction treatment program in South Carolina quite well to select the most appropriate kind of program. Here are some tips that can help you to find the right kind of drug treatment program in South Carolina.

1. The first thing that you must look is that you are getting the treatment program that is designed for the kind of addiction the patient is in. For example, if the patient is in a heroin addiction, it is imperative that the treatment program must be a heroin treatment program. In fact, this is one point you have to keep in mind when you are checking the licensing information of these treatment centers. It is not enough that the treatment center has a license for general drug addiction treatment; it should be licensed for that particular form of addiction that you are looking for. Only a treatment center that has a specific license and expertise for a particular kind of addiction will be able to handle the subtleties of the treatment appropriately.

2. Secondly, make sure that you acquaint yourself with the drug treatment program in South Carolina quite well. You need to know what all kinds of treatment programs are permissible within the state. Reading on a website such as the National Clearinghouse, the National Institute of Drug Abuse or the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration will do quite well in this case, because these federal websites have a great deal of information on what programs are qualified for drug addiction treatment in South Carolina. You can find out what works and what doesn’t.

3. Read the program that is conducted by the treatment center that you are considering also. Each treatment center has a different kind of treatment program and the patient may not be comfortable with all of them. In fact, for every level of addiction, there is a different drug treatment program in South Carolina. Hence you have to make sure that the treatment program you are selecting is not above or below the person’s requirements.

4. At the same time, you have to read what kinds of facilities the treatment center will provide. Not all treatment centers have all the facilities that the patient would need for the treatment. Most treatment centers for drug addiction in South Carolina are merely counseling centers and they do not have a detox treatment program, for example. This could be inconvenient for the patient, even if the treatment center sends the patient to an outside center for the treatment. Also, nursing care may not be present round the clock in all centers of drug addiction treatment in South Carolina. There may not be personal attention on each and every patient. Make sure of all these things because they can very significantly influence the way the patient responds to the treatment.

5. You have to see whether the program is a qualified treatment program or not. The qualified treatment programs are those programs that are sanctioned by the state for addiction treatment. Getting into such a treatment program gives you the confidence that you are with a tried and tested treatment program that has more chances of succeeding. Also, these programs will be cheaper because they may have state funding and even the insurance companies will be agreeable to cover the treatment in these centers. On the other hand, the nonqualified treatment programs might be quite expensive for you because they are conducted in private rehab centers and there is no assurance of treatment either.

6. Location is important if you are in an outpatient treatment format. For inpatient treatment, it does not matter much because the patient stays within the center. So if you are agreeable with the drug treatment program in South Carolina of a particular center but it is not within your city, you can still use it if it is an inpatient form of treatment. However, you will need to change the treatment program over to your state when the inpatient phase of the treatment ends and it gets into the aftercare mode which is usually outpatient.

These are some of the points that you need to know when you are planning a drug treatment program in South Carolina. Getting an intervention specialist to help you in planning the program is a very good idea because they will also guide you through the entire treatment process and also let you know what you must do in order to prevent a relapse at the end of the program.

Drug addiction is a progressive disease. The addiction needs to be curbed at the correct time with a correct treatment to save ill effects which could be as bad as death. Hence it is important to know the right kind of treatment program. In a place like Washington, where there are so many treatment centers with their immense treatment programs, it becomes a bit difficult to select the most appropriate treatment program pertaining to a patient’s needs and profile.

Let us look at some of the important things you must know while selecting a drug treatment program in Washington for a patient:

1. The right type of facility:

The first step is to choose the correct facility. The facilities are based on the age namely for adults, young people and adolescents. Therefore depending on the patient’s age you choose the correct facility.

2. The appropriate service:

Choosing the correct service depends on the patient’s file and the level of support that the patient needs. It could be primary or extended care service where a patient needs a full support, the patient stays at the treatment centers and is under a round the clock observations. The service rendered could also be partial care which is for patients who are treated without having to stop their daily routine be it school or work. There is yet another service called the detoxification service, where a patient is being treated by medications.

3. The appropriate treatment:

This is also an important thing to know. There is a difference in the type of drug the patient is using and the correct treatment for that particular drug. Like for a Hallucinogen drug addict, there are treatments solely concentrating on the hallucinogen drug recovery.

4. Customer Service:

You can determine a lot about the treatment centre with the customer service they provide. A simple answer to an enquiry phone, the level of information they impart, the constructive suggestions they give, the emotional support they give in case of anxiety, travel facility all of these could tell you a lot about the treatment centre and the program.

5. The Safety Provisions:

The patient’s safety at the treatment centre can be easily determined by the treatment center’s appropriate license sanctioned with Washington’s health authorities which also includes regular inspections. Also the provisions for on campus medical help, experienced, educated and disciplined staff, a round the clock supervision can also help you evaluate your chosen treatment in the drug treatment program in Washington.

6. Quality treatment facility:

Quality treatment includes different approaches for drug treatment. For the residential treatments, how flexible they are to meet the needs of the patient, how effectively they engage the patients during their stay, how balanced they are in the activities throughout the day, the variety of the therapy, recreation, nutrition and hygiene. The after treatment follow up is a very important feature in a treatment too. At the same time family should be able to judge and compare the various activities and features of the training centers and be able to select the best according to the patient’s need.

7. Counseling for Families:

After the treatment, when a patient returns home a changed man, nothing changes much at home. The family finds it difficult to adjust to this change and the thought that the addiction may relapse, always plays at the back of their minds. This thought may affect their actions in turn affecting their relationship. Therefore counseling sessions with the family are necessary.

8. Cost:

Cost may sometimes be a major hurdle for the people in Washington. Some helpful tips before you enroll in a drug treatment centre. If you need a detoxifying and a primary service for the patient it would help looking for a centre which provides both the service under one hat. This allows you to have two services at one go. It also helps to leave a bout of money for after treatment services.

9. Location:

The drug treatment program in Washington has seen a lot of change in the last few years with respect to location. The initial stereotype with the word “rehab center” that it is some sort of punishment has shifted and more comfortable and home like centers are seen. Also according to the patient’s stage of addiction an outdoor or an indoor form of treatment is selected.

These are some of the tips you can remember while looking for a drug treatment program in Washington. Nowadays there are integration programs and services that make your search smoother from selecting the most appropriate clinic centre to administration paper work to regular update of treatment to discharge and also mentoring.

Weight Loss Diet Natural and Safe Weight Loss Tips

Posted on July 20, 2009 |

According to Ayurveda, the ancient Indian science of health and healing, the Kapha Dosha (humour) is primarily responsible for fat and adipose tissue in the body and therefore reducing Kapaha is the key to a successful weight loss program. Below you will find some effective tips from ayurveda to help reduce Kapha Dosha and thus battle obesity and being overweight.

Of the four dimensions of our being, physical, emotional, mental and spiritual, in this article I will cover the Physical Dimension which is most important for the reduction of Kapha and the correlating reduction in weight.

Weight Loss Tips from Ayurveda:

1. Ayurvedic Diet for Weight Loss:

Obviously an anti-kapha diet is the place to start when looking to lose weight. This means eating lots of fruits, vegetables, spicy foods and whole grains.

2. Exercise for Weight Loss:

The following Ayurvedic guidelines should be followed for proper exercise with regard to weight loss:

* More Exercise the Better: Kapha’s qualities of fixed, dull, heavy, soft and cold are all negated via exercise. In other words, the more exercise you do the more you reduce Kapha and therefore fat in your body.

* Exercise Without Excessive Strain: According to Ayurveda, Kapha individuals need the most vigorous exercise, but at the same time, the exercise should never be extreme. Find a good balance between doing too little and over doing it. Breaking a nice sweat is good, but being totally breathless is probably too much.

* Be Consistent: A Kapha body type has a propensity towards weight gain so you need to make exercise a daily part of you life. The hardest part will be to get the exercise program underway. Once this is done Kapha people tend to be very determined and steady, so they will be able to adhere to it long term. Getting started though is another matter for Kapha types and usually requires shock treatment. In the spirit of shock treatment, understand that by NOT exercising and NOT losing the weight you are putting your longevity and quality of life at risk. Enough said, start today!

* Yoga for Weight Loss: Yoga offers an excellent way to include holistic exercises into your fitness program. These exercises will not just help you lose weight, but will also help your overall health and well-being.

* Post Exercise Diet: After exercises do not drink cold liquids. This period is key as you are trying to increase the metabolic fire in your cells so they burn more calories and drinking cold liquids at this time will negate this important benefit which exercise bestows.

3. Hard Physical Work to Burn Calories:

According to Ayurveda reduction of Kapha is promoted by living a physical, active lifestyle. In today’s age of technology, computers, TVs, TiVO, internet, etc, manual labor is getting more rare for people to do. So you need to consciously incorporate physical work into your life. Whether that be mowing the lawn, tending to the garden or shoveling snow, it is important to not live a sedentary live of watching TV and eating twinkies.

4. Massage Therapy to Reduce Fat:

There are many treatment modalities in Ayurveda of which massage is highly recommended. In the context of weight loss and reducing Kapha, strong massage with light oils such as mustard or flaxseed is helpful.

5. Sleep Guidelines for Weight Loss:

No napping or going to bed early. If you want to reduce Kapha and weight remember you burn more calories when you are awake and being active, than when you are happily snuggled under the blanket.

The above recommendations will surely help you with your weight loss goals and in addition to helping you get slim, they will also make you more healthy and fit.
